Congratulations to the forty Americans -- well, more than forty, of course, since many of those medals were a team effort -- who won gold at the XXXIII (33rd) Olympiad in Paris. That tied the US and China for most gold, but the US easily ran away with the total medal count, 126 to 91, which probably says something about each country's priorities.
I confess I didn't watch any of the events, this being a particularly busy summer for me, though I did get caught up in the marathon route, a particularly grueling one by all accounts. (I moused through it online, which made the streets around the Palais Garnier no less arduous than the hills farther south.)
