The debate and the gatekeepers
I don't usually watch political debates, but I watched last night's on the internet, thinking that without Mr Trump it might be illuminating. Well, it was, but not because of the candidates. It was all about the moderators. What odious people, especially Chris Wallace with his constipated little smirk! Then this morning I looked at the New York Times online and saw the now-inevitable fact check, while the lead story was somebody's opinion about a Cruz-Rubio battle that I never saw.
Our interconnected world, which in theory allows us to be a witness to history as it takes place, is in fact so buffered by these gatekeepers that we no longer are allowed to form our own idea of what is really going on.
