Happy birthday, Sgr Rossini!

Gioachino Antonio Rossini was born in Pesaro on February 29, 1792, fifty-five Leap Years ago. That is perhaps why The Barber of Seville seems forever young. In Florence, some years ago, Sally and I had the great good fortune to stay at a hotel that was once Sgr Rossini's home. One rainy afternoon we took shelter in the Basilica of Santa Croce and found ourselves standing more less atop his crypt. It was moments like this that made Italy my favorite country.
