Carrying the fuel oil to Nome

There's a splendid story in the NYT this morning about the struggle to get fuel oil to Nome. That's a Coast Guard cutter, forcing a path through the ice. Blue skies! -- Dan Ford

The tanker has made it to Nome, though the oil must be pumped by hose across the ice because the harbor is too deeply frozen. It was an epic journey for the Russian tanker and its accompanying USCG cutter--three hundred miles through the ice! Fifteen feet of snow have fallen on Alaska, and the winter has hardly begun. Thirty-one degrees below zero F! How pleasant it is to live in balmy New Hampshire. Blue skies! -- Dan Ford
