The worst thing that ever happened: 1 Sep 1939

Here was Warsaw after the first Germany terror raid, seventy-two years ago this month. Thus began the Second World War, the worst thing that ever happened in the bloody history of the world. The Germans would be followed on September 17 by the Russians, dividing Poland between them according to the Hitler-Stalin pact of August 13. Go here for more about the rape of Poland.
