Das counterinsurgency

The inestimable Bill Lind and his colleagues at the 'Fourth Generation seminar' at Quantico, Virginia, have produced a draft of their counterinsurgency manual. You can read it here. It is Mr Lind's whim that these are publications of the Austro-Hungarian Marine Corps, to make the point that, while his manuals have a link with the US Marines, they are by no means official. (The seminar was gathering at Quantico just as I was leaving. I'd been researching my dissertation on John Boyd and counterinsurgency, and I'd hoped to interview Mr Lind in Washington, so this was a particularly painful miss.) I look forward to examining it.
