Yesterday I got a letter from the Vice President—no, not that vice president, but the one from two administrations ago. I realize that ex-presidents and -governors still get the honorific, but vice presidents? Does Tipper really come down in the morning and say, ‘Good morning, Mr Vice President?’ More likely Al still dreams of slipping back into Washington and setting up an office there. Watch your back, Joe Biden!

The letter had eight cents’ postage on the front—a special rate for vice presidents, perhaps—and on the back the information that the mailing had saved the forest to the extent of 288 trees and the atmosphere to the extent of 26,619 pounds of greenhouse gasses not generated.
