'Obama wants GM to stay in RenCen'

Those who feared that the White House and Congress might be tempted to meddle in the day-to-day operations of Government Motors will hardly be reassured by a story in yesterday's Detroit News online:

'Detroit --Mayor Dave Bing expressed confidence today that General Motors Corp.'s headquarters will remain in Detroit, especially since President Obama supports the troubled auto giant remaining in the Renaissance Center.

'Bing, who said he feels bad for the thousands of people who will lose their jobs at the company that sought bankruptcy protection in federal court today, said he received a call Sunday night from Obama "informing me of his support for GM to stay in the city of Detroit with its headquarters at the Renaissance (Center)."'
It's a relief, anyhow, that as far as we know the two men didn't discuss the shade of paint on the walls of Fritz Henderson's corner office. Blue skies! -- Dan Ford
