There's quite a cottage industry making fun of the geographical and historical smarts of American schoolchildren, so it was a great relief to be told by Sky News that 10 percent of British kids think that Auschwitz is a country bordering Germany while 2 percent think it's a brand of beer.

On the other hand, nearly 100 percent of the young Brits (aged 11-16) could identify Adolf Hitler from a photograph, though a few did confuse him with Winston Churchill. Huh. I wonder how Americans would fare on that one? For their sake, here's a bit of extra credit homework. Blue skies! -- Dan Ford
