Let us all be happy for Claudine Gay

She famously lost her job as the first black president of Harvard University, despite her plea that what she called "my truth" exonerates her from any accustions of anti-semitism or, presumably, of plagiarism. But Dr Gay remains on the Harvard faculty as a full professor without any immediate cut in pay. Her mooted salary is $900,000 a year -- not bad if you can get it! It may be that she'll revert to a more typical professorial paycheck when she begins to teach again, say in September. It matters a lot that Dr Gay resigned, rather than being fired, and it matters even more that she was a tenured professor (of political science) when she was tapped as president, which in this case basically means that Harvard can't fire her as a teacher.
