Screams without words

The day after Putin invaded Ukraine in February 2022, I subscribed to the New York Times, which regularly irritates me with the politics sprinkled through its "news," but which every once in a while commits journalism of the sort that made the paper famous. Such a story is this one, which every American should read: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/28/world/middleeast/oct-7-attacks-hamas-israel-sexual-violence.html (you may have to provide an email addy and a password to read the whole thing). It details the rape of Israel, Israeli women, and at least one Israeli man by the Hamas butchers on October 7.

And I use butchery, like rape, both as metaphor and as fact. No context is required.
