Depends on what the meaning of "law" is

A local clerk won't obey the same-sex marriage laws, so she gets jailed. And the Good People cheer! These are the same Good People who cheered when cities declared themselves sanctuaries where US immigration laws don't apply. And when the Attorney General refused to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act. And when Mr Obama rewrote the Affordable Care Act.

“The success of our democracy depends on the rule of law," says the White House about the Kentucky case, "and there is no public official that is above the rule of law.”  I couldn't agree more. If only the White House applied that maxim to itself!
