73 years ago today

April 18, 1942! It was 73 years ago today that the Doolittle Raiders took off from the deck of an aircraft carrier to bomb Tokyo, a feat never before attempted in a B-25 medium bomber. In the end it was a debacle, but what a glorious debacle for those of us who read about it in the newspapers! Along with the AVG Flying Tigers, the Doolittle Raid was a bit of hope in America's most dismal winter since the Civil War.

Norton has published a new, huge, and evidently magnificent account of the Dootlittle Raiders. The title is Target Tokyo, the author is James M. Scott, and the Amazon page is here
