On women in combat
While the U.S. Marines run tests to see if American women can handle the stress of combat, the Women's Protection Unit is on the front line every day in Kobani, battling Islamic State on behalf of the effective Kurdish state in northern Iraq. The Kurds -- men and women -- are holding their ground with precious little help from Baghdad or Washington. (This gal is not only a soldier but a unit commander.) I think we could do worse than negotiate to make Kurdistan the 51st state.
