Pledging allegiance

Elections are always a time of madness, but 2012 seems to be in a manic class by itself. Not only is the Obama campaign asking the righteous to (literally!) pledge allegiance on Facebook, but it is selling art prints for $35 that show the American flag with the field of stars replaced by the Big O. "It seems," say columnist James Taranto, "we have a president who thinks the national symbol is the bald ego."
