SANK ROO DA NOO

I had occasion this morning to type an Italian phrase in phonetic syllables, which reminded me of Harry's Bar in Paris. Every day, in the European edition of the New York Herald Tribune, there was an advertisement on the lower right corner of the front page for this expensive honky tonk, instructing the visitor: "Tell the cabbie: SANK ROO DA NOO." What a great ad! After the passage of half a century, I can still remember the address for Harry's Bar. What's more, Google tells me it's still there, though it tells me to spell the final syllables DOE NOU. Evidently today's tourists are a bit more sophisticated than those of the 1950s.
