The recount, Persian style

Anyone weary of the endless recounts that mar American elections (hanging chads in Florida, the Frankenelection in Minnesota) should consider the alternative, as illustrated in this scene near Tehran University as the police beat on those unhappy with the rigged results. 'What is most shocking is not the fraud itself, but that it was brazen and entirely without pretext', blogs Laura Secor at The New Yorker. The first to congratulate 'President' Ahmadinejad was Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. Let's hope that Obama has the decency not to be second. Blue skies! -- Dan Ford
